Things have definitely been hopping at #rdcHQ – and not just with eBooks! Earlier this month we announced that we would be adding a second project team – we have decided to postpone that decision for awhile to focus on the two fabulous mentees we have now. We do have a couple of exciting projects on the horizon, so we are keeping our eyes open for talented people interested in working on meaningful projects. It is possible we may add a Fall track to our mentoring program given the great deal of interest in the Rural Design Collective!

On a related note, we picked up some worthwhile Extra Credit when we pitched in on BPMakesMeSick.com, an online campaign demanding that clean-up workers be allowed to wear respiratory protective equipment in the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The site played an important role in organizing the effort, and was featured on many high profile media outlets, including MSNBC’s Countdown. An animation was created for the site using leading-edge media technologies, including HTML5 Canvas and web font embedding (a technique we intend to use on eBooks!) – you can view that animation here.
