We're starting the day off right with a heavy fog and a strong breeze from the North at the lighthouse 🚩 (Beaufort force 6); 54°F; Stratus Blue on the cyanometer. Of course, you never know what the afternoon winds will bring!

If you take a beach walk today you might catch a glimpse of C. soldanella, a.k.a. Beach Morning Glory. Known for its ephemeral nature, they bloom in the morning and close by afternoon (or in cloudy weather) ⎈⎈⎈

The white yarrow is in abundance this time of year. Another plant with a fascinating backstory; named after the Greek hero Achilles (Achillea millefolium), it has symbolic meaning in various cultures, representing bravery, protection, and even everlasting love. ⎈⎈⎈

The rain must have encouraged the red elderberries (S. racemosa) as their vibrant red berries dot the landscape all along the drive into Cape Blanco State Park. It's a feast for the eyes and the wildlife! ⎈⎈⎈

The rain sure does wonders for the wildflowers on the Cape. There are two types of Vicia that grow out at Cape Blanco; the giant variety grows on the Sixes River Trail near the Hughes House. ⎈⎈⎈

The dwarf lupine all along the lighthouse gate road is now in bloom uniquely characterized by a dense mat; it's one of three lupine types spotted near the lighthouse.

Bear in mind winds increase during the day before they diminish, so it would be a good idea to call the Greeting Center Gift Shop before venturing out.
