The Cape Blanco Weather Station Archive 🌞

Our art show really began to bloom out at Cape Blanco in July with our annual "Artists At The Hughes House" event and more art donations to "Save Our Lighthouse". There is always so much to see and do during the summer season at the historic sites and during the Port Orford Jubilee event.

It's a misty cool day at the Cape Blanco Lighthouse with southerly winds at 5-15mph with maximum gusts of ~22mph. Our shade of blue today is Link Water (#7) which seems appropriate for this light and saturated morning. It's Monday and we have moisture in the rain gauge. Not measurable, but always good to see in late July.

Makes one take pause and think of the people who still rely on the lighthouse as an aid to navigation. We love our historic Cape Blanco Lighthouse, the oldest continually operating lighthouse on the Oregon Coast.

Windy out at Cape Blanco this morning! Gusts of 38mph with an average of 26-30mph. Cerulean Blue (#23) on the cyanometer. Our anemometer mast seems to be weathering the wind gusts. During the Columbus Day Storm of October 12 1962, our anemometer hit 145mph before failing.

Our anemometer is measuring northerly winds of 9mph / Maximum gusts of 27mph. Our docents still use handheld anemometers to measure wind speed at the gate before they proceed up the lighthouse gate road.

We started the day at hue #4, "Solitude Blue", a color that certainly must have been familiar with Cape Blanco Lighthouse Keepers. However, our weather cam indicates that skies are clearing fast at Cape Blanco. Come enjoy the day!
